about
New You is a satirical view of New Year's Resolutions veiled in a cheery melody. In that light, the "New You" hook line comes off as an "oh well, we tried" aside. Drawing from the mindset of his favorite satirical authors Mark Twain and Kurt Vonnegut, that dismal outlook is balanced by the hopeful note of knowing that we'll try again.
lyrics
Pop a bottle for your New Year resolutions
Write ‘em down before you take another drink
Here’s to hoping that this year you lift your hesitations
Here’s to hoping at the bottom of champagne (pain)
This year’s ending on a good note so let’s keep it rolling
Remember feeling this tomorrow when you wake
Count it down with friends and family, yeah, 4, 3, 2, 1
Bottoms up when My Dear Acquaintance plays (plays)
It’s the right feel of something bubbling up
And you know you can’t stay the same
Every year we get to grow up, it’s true
Every year we forget to change
New you, new you
Push the hangover aside, yeah, lose your patience
Gatorade and coffee - now you’re feelin’ great
Write your hopes and dreams on paper, now they’re not delusions
But if you say ‘em out loud they sound insane (sane)
6 months in, and you start to lose your motivation
So you pull out that list you made on New Year’s Day
All the boxes without checks are staring right back at you
Tear it up, and 6 months later, try again (gain)
It’s the right feel of something bubbling up
And you know you can’t stay the same
Every year we get to grow up, it’s true
Every year we forget to change
New you, new you
Pop a bottle, pop a bottle, pop a bottle, pop a bottle
It’s the right feel of something bubbling up yeah,
Right feel of something bubbling
It’s the right feel of something bubbling up
And you know you can’t stay the same
Every year we get to grow up, it’s true
Every year we forget to change
New you, new you
